Heia Tommy,
Personally I would say speed then go easy on the rocks and try to safe the rig and for sure you will finish. We kept a constant pace at the beginning since we did no pre running, this caused us to get caught in some traffic at the first rock crawling sections, but we managed to drive around most of the traffic. So if you start off fast and keep up your speed and get in front of the pack at the beginning you will avoid the traffic. From there you just have to keep a good pace thru the rock sections and just keep moving. Always good to make a quick pit stop and check everything on the rig. Dont follow anyone to close. It is best to finish before dark. The top 3 finishers did lots of pre-running, which is the key.

Memories of the King of the Hammers adventures, damn that was a tough race to finish.
